A More Harmonic Hertz

The Google Doodle for Heinrich Rudolf Hertz's 155th birthday is very cool . . .

. . . but does it bother anyone besides me that the design uses semicircles instead of sinusoids? I would have found something like the waveform below to be a little less jarring.

However, even this sinusoidal waveform suffers from disturbing slope discontinuities at the zero crossings. Maybe if we applied a little low-pass filtering. . .
